A legal right to stop anyone making an AI copy of you without your permission.
What happened
Anyone can be copied.
It takes a few seconds of audio to clone a voice and a handful of photos to fake a face. Musicians have found songs “by them” that they never recorded. Teenagers have found fake images of themselves passed round school. Grandparents have been phoned by a “grandchild” in trouble who turned out to be software.
In the UK you have no general right to your own likeness. If someone copies your face or voice, you're left piecing together laws that were written for other problems, and hoping one of them fits.
What we're asking for
You, in law.
The ask, in full. A legal right to stop anyone making an AI copy of you without permission.
What changes for you.
- Your face, body and voice count as yours in law, the way your name does now.
- You can demand a fake is taken down, and platforms have to act on it fast.
- Making or sharing an AI copy of a real person needs their consent. Parody and satire stay protected.
- If you're a performer, nobody can use a copy of you to replace you without your say.
Who already does this.
Denmark is changing its copyright law so that every citizen owns their own face, body and voice, and can demand that unauthorised AI copies are removed. Satire and parody stay legal. It's the model we'd start from.
Why this is good for AI.
Voice and image tools are genuinely wonderful. They help people who've lost their speech sound like themselves again, and let small creators do things that used to need a studio. A likeness right doesn't touch any of that. It stops the one use nobody signed up for: being copied against your will.
